Jacobite Stock Horses

Jacobite Stock horse stud is situated at ‘Oakendale’, in the Upper Hunter Region of NSW. The stud only breeds a small number of foals each year, working on the theory of breeding quality rather than quantity. The selective breeding operation is based on great mares that produce high quality foals. I have sourced mares that have either performed themselves at a high level and/or have strong, proven, performance families. The mares are only bred to stallions sourced on type, temperament and genetics that will best match the mares own genetic pool that will in turn add value to the breed. I would like to thank Jane and Paul Stone, Stoneage Stock Horses, Qld for giving me the opportunity to gain such a rich pool of genetics in my horses, and for there ongoing support and kind words of wisdom.

All the horses are worked on Belltrees station so it is a necessity that they show natural cattle sense, are biddable and willing to put in a good days work, yet competent to perform both in the show ring or at a campdraft of a weekend. It’s a hard ask, but this also ensures good grounding on all the horses as well as performance records.

I have only recently returned to the Upper Hunter after having some time away with work commitments, it’s been a pleasure to return and I look forward to remaining in the area and moving forward with Jacobite Stock Horses well into the future. Just a bit of history, from 1688 - 1746 the Jackobites were known for there hardiness, individuality and resourcefulness in battle, predominantly Scottish highlanders but also made up of Irish components in the military campaigns to restore the Stuart Kings to the thrones of Scotland and England. With the horses showing the same qualities as my ancestors did, it was a logical choice and fits well with my family’s livestock brand, that being MCK.
